Matt Nelson – wildlife, nature and travel photographer
Although I grew up in a small town of around 5000 people, I never accepted to be confined to its borders. I was instilled with an unsatisfiable curiosity for new cultures and places from a young age, and have since been fortunate enough to travel to 10 different countries, a number I plan to increase.
I received a Bachelor's degree in visual journalism from the University of Alabama in 2011 with hopes of becoming a photojournalist. A sense of humanitarian duty led me to combine journalism with my love of photography, hoping to one day provide a voice to the voiceless through powerful imagery. A pair of trips to South Africa in recent years to study wildlife photography has molded that sense of duty to include the plight of wild animals and the environment as a whole – a voice for the voiceless.
